P Ramlees Memorial is located at his actual former residence at 22 Jalan Dedap, Taman P Ramlee, 53000 Kuala Lumpur. Tel - 03-4023 1131.
Tan Sri Datuk Amar Dr. P. Ramlee was truly an all-rounder when it came to the entertainment industry. He was a Malaysian film actor, director, singer, songwriter, composer and producer. Hence, it would be wrong to call him an actor. He was actually an entertainer due to his diversity.
He was Malaysia’s first entertainment icon and his influence captured the hearts and minds of people in Malaysia, Singapore, Brunei, Japan, Philippines and Sumatra.
Tan Sri was born on 22 March 1929. His father, Teuku Nyak Puteh, was a sailor from Aceh, who later married Che Mah Hussain.
On 29 May 1973, P. Ramlee died at the age of 44 from a heart attack and is buried at Jalan Ampang Muslim Cemetery, in Kuala Lumpur.
His award-winning films and my personal favorite are:
1. Anakku Sazali : Best Male Actor, 4th Asian Film Festival (Tokyo, 1957)
2. Hang Tuah (Legend of Hang Tuah): Best Musical Score, 3rd Asian Film Festival (Hong Kong 1956)
3. Ibu Mertuaku : Most Versatile Talent, 10th Asian Film Festival (Tokyo, 1963)
4. Madu Tiga : Best Comedy, 11th Asian Film Festival (Taipei, 1964)
