Whistle as Security Device

For security measure, people use pocket knives, carry on blunt objects, pepper spray and etc.

I got whistles attached to my kids backpack. They use their backpack to carry their ipad, water bottle, sunglasses, drawing material and etc. They take the bag every time they go out. They have been taught to use the whistle when needed.

My son's bag

My son's whistle (bought in Explorer Outfitter, DaMen Mall for RM25 but it is a little cheaper in ACE Hardware, my daughter's (Fox 40 Striker, sports stainless steel whistle, bought in Sabah for RM35) and finally mine, antique Bronze Whistle

Cochlans Camping Whistle, Has a compass, magnifying glass and thermometer (on the reverse)

British Brass Police Whistle. Just like all the other whistles in this post, to get the desired sound, you need to give it a loud blow

Part of my ECD carry when I go out (* note - not all the tools I carry at all time. I rotate the tools I carry

Porsche

I use to own a Porsche. Somewhere along this blog, in the future I will share with all readers what happened. My dream now is to get another one. When I do, I consider myself a multiple Porsche owner. 😉

Ever since at a young age, I use to read the classifieds in News Straits Times papers to imagine buying one. Although, my heart was fascinated by Ferrari's but realistically, Porsche's were within reach. Yes, even at my secondary school days, I knew it was within reach. Even though neither me nor my dad could afford one (at that time).

Why Porsche's? Well,

Scrambled Eggs

Gordon Ramsay scrambled eggs

If you were to watch Gordon Ramsay on YouTube, it is like watching a master craftsman at work. He cooks with so much passion so effortlessly. Needless to say, you or me may not get the same results.

With that out of the way, I tried his scrabbled egg recipe.

Below is the link :

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PUP7U5vTMM0&t=74s

Cooked it for breakfast, 10 September 2018. Breakdown is as follows, cooked the mushrooms in olive oil. Saute in sea salt, finely ground black pepper  and Italian herbs. Then did the same for the cherry tomatoes. Then on light heat cooked the eggs with olive oil and large globs of butter.

Picture does not do it even an ounce of justice. I guess, due to the plate being too big and small food portions, it is visually a let-down but taste wise. It sure packs a punch.

All I can say is try it. Not the least disappointed. Just get good and fresh ingredients. You  can’t go wrong. A word of caution. I did not wash the mushrooms at all. I noticed that even a tad of water makes it soggy and robs its taste a bit. A little dirt won’t kill you. Enjoy and have a great day.

Durian

How does one describe durian?

I think that it is the only fruit that has been described to the opposite ends, depending on one’s point of view and taste buds. One might find it as a delicacy. Others, a repulsive smelly stinky nauseating, foul.

The King of Fruits, I feel is best described by British Naturalist, Albert Russel Wallace as ‘ a rich custard high flavoured with almonds”.

The word was first used around 1580 derived from the “duri”, thorn.

The Durian is native to Brunei, Indonesia & Malaysia.

The price of durian fluctuates from time to time based on supply and demand.

2 years back I remember spending RM150 on 3 small musang king durians.

This year, the price dropped drastically due to oversupply from simultaneous fruiting in Pahang, Perak and Johor.

Being a seasonal fruit, normally, durian comes from Johor first, then Pahang and lastly followed by Perak.

However, this year there was an abundant supply as all were produced at the same time. In other words, supply exceeded demand.

Sometime in August 2018, I purchased 3 large musang king at RM100. I saw stalls selling D24 at RM12 per kilo and durian kampung at RM8 per kilo.

Not quite durian runtuh prices, unless you get it (durian kampung) at RM1 per fruit, like those shared on the internet from stalls in Kulim, Kedah.

Ever wondered, what was the price 20 or 30 years ago? The picture below was shared by a friend.

Steak and Scotch Eggs

Dinner on Saturday, 11 August 2018.

If one were to view Gordon Ramsay or Jamie Oliver cooking steak, their recipe is so simple that your heart aches, every time you (I'm taking about me) screw it up.

So followed to the dot and it tasted ridiculously mouthwatering. Overcooked it a tad though.

Below are the simple steps and its yummy results

Always get prime cuts. Next project will be Wagyu

Check out the marbling effect

Seasoned it with himalayan pink rock salt and fresh ground black pepper

Heated the olive oil and let the steak sizzle. Lumps of butter and garlic was added and dusted with fresh rosemarry

Just dig in. Just a tad overcooked. Hence, I did not get the pink center. But taste hmmmm hmmm hmmm. Finished in one seating and longing for more

Tried this recipe by Chef John @ Food Wishes. You can view his video on Youtube. He has such a fun and tenacious voice that you are just drawn into his videos.

Chef John always advocates that since you are the own author of your recipes, explore and don't limit your contents. Your contents sometimes depends on what you have available at the moment.

I tried his Scott egg recipe. Modified off course.

Started with ground beef

Mixed them with himalayan pink rock salt, fresh ground black paper, oregano, parsley, onions, garlic and paprika, for the added heat. Don't be stingy with the ingredients, the you may end up with plain tasting meat lacking that Oumph!

Wrapped the meat around boiled egg, cubes fried potatoes and cheese

Made into balls

Dusted with all purpose flour, egg and bread scrumbs

The bread crumbs are crucial to make the outer layer crunchy and crispy

Deep Fried

Paper towel to absorb the excess oil

That's it. You're done

Donald Trump

I'm not dwindle on him. More than enough has and readers can make up their own minds.

But I think this picture illustrates the situation well.

Picture found on the net.

Come to think of it, this must be how the orang asli of Malaysia view us as well

Explorer Outfitter @ Damen Mall

Bought this last Sunday, 12 August 2018.

Was looking high and low of a perfect fitting pouch for my daughters Victorinox Swiss Army Classic SD Multi-Tool, 2-1/4" Translucent Pink Handles - 54005.

The multi tool when purchased was bare naked. Only came with a loop. And I did not have a lanyard befitting a 6 year old girl. Something funky.

Explorer @ Damen Mall just got their stock replenished. Check them out.

All your camping or outdoor gear equipment is conveniently located under one roof.

Cheers and have a blessed Sunday
