Ray-Ban Aviator

Ray-Ban was created in the mid 1800 by German immigrants John Jacob Bausch and Hendry Lomb in Rochester, New York.

The design came about in the 1930 when US Army air core Colonel John Macready was concerned about the visibility of pilots at altitude as their present goggles would fog up. Hence, the teardrop iconic image was created to cover maximum real estate around each eye. This anti glare sunglasses that eliminate sunlight and glare was patented in the late 1930s.

The best advertisement is free advertisement.

General Douglas McArthur in 1944 made his triumphant return to the Philippines wearing a pair.

In 1984 the King of pop Michael Jackson wore it for the Grammys, creating his iconic look.

In 1986 Tom Cruse and Val Kilmer wort it in Top Gun.

My priced possession was the original Chromax driving series with black pouch. The lens brought out the red colour. It pop out so much. I remember seeing a worn out dilapidated red proton saga at a traffic light. The red was so worn out it looked almost a dull faded pink. But with the glasses on the red was so vibrant. New almost the paint. That was how good the lens was.

The other thing I remembered was wearing this shades soothing the eyes immensely. No matter how hot the weather outside the car was. Once wearing the shades for 5 minutes, you become obvious to the heat outside. You feel cool and relaxed. But the minute you took them off, your are pounded by the heat.

That's how good those lens was.

Unfortunately they were stolen back in the mid 2000's when I parked along the roadside in Jalan Kemajuan, PJ and someone broke into my car. I am heartbroken till this day thinking about it.

This is my son's aviator. Size 52. It has a vintage brass looking frame.
