Tun Abdul Razak birth home, Pulau Keladi

Tun Abdul Razak Hussein was born on 11 March 1922 in Pulau Keladi, Pekan.

Tun was the second Prime Minister and the person responsible in setting up Barison Nasional.

Tun Razak was the first of two children to Dato' Hussein Mohd Taib and Datin Hj. Teh Fatimah Daud. Being of aristocratic descent, Tun was privileged to  studied at the famous Malay College Kuala Kangsar and was subsequently awarded a scholarship to study at Raffles College, Singapore in 1940. Thereafter, receiving a law degree in UK and qualified as barrister at Lincon's Inn.

In 1955, at just 33 years of age, Tun became Pahang's Chief Minister. The rest we say is history.

I was fortunate enough to view his house of birth

There is also more than a 100 year old Penghulu's house from Kg. Songsang, Temerloh located besides Tun's home and located in the vicinity is place for learning the fine skills of weaving cloth

Tun's birth home. Imagine the agony his mother would gone through back in the day without proper medical aid and epidural

The roof has been changed due to severe deterioration. Front view of the home

Side view

Rear view

The place is officially closed due to the leaky roof and neglect. I had to persuade the person in charge to take a glimpse.

This is the actual stove used then. The burnt coal is still visible

Tun's parents bed. No nails used during its construction. Made from cengal. I tried lifting it, did not budge an inch. The mattress is newly replaced but neglected

Their display cabinet

Another display cabinet. This has got beautiful carvings but not clear in this picture. Bear in mind that this is a picture using an iphone 3gs with no lighting

Old study desk used by Tun's father

Actual singer sewing machine used by the family

I found this residence not having much gaps in the wooden construction. This is a far cry from other village houses that I had observed on my trip. Other wooden houses had gaps between the wood to allow ventilation of air in and out of the house

Their dressing table. Notice the wooden wall. No gaps between the wood

Behind the bed is the kitchen area. The hall / dining area / living room is all the same in one square block

 Kitchen

This was a water filter. Made from clay and cement. Obtained from one of the residents in the area and not used by Tun's family. Did not realize that people back then had ingenuity in such matters

Another angle of the furnitures

The inner part of the ceiling. Just covered by cloth. Now you know why this place is closed. If the holes are not patched, it is a matter of time before all is gone

The veranda, where they use to have chats whilst viewing the scenery

The pictures were only recently added and not a part of the original decor

The Penghulu's house. It was transported here from Temerloh. This is how Tun's original room would have looked like

This items are located in the adjoining museum on Tun.
